On May 2-3, 2014, Stanford’s Journal of International Law (SJIL) hosted the forum “Governing Intelligence: Transnational Threats and the National Security State” bringing together leading scholars and practitioners to discuss urgent issues at the intersection of intelligence and national security.
The panel “Intel Gathering and Individual Rights” was moderated by SLS Assistant Professor Shirin Sinnar and featured Electronic Frontier Foundation’s Cindy Cohn, Privacy and Civil Liberties Oversight Board Member Elisabeth Collins Cook, National Security Agency Deputy Director John C. Inglis and former Deputy to the U.S. Ambassador at Large for War Crimes Issues in the U.S. Department’s Office of Global Criminal Justice’s Beth Van Schaack.
