This discussion provides the historical background and current context of how voter suppression impacts Native communities and other communities of color. Felony disenfranchisement, gerrymandering, identification laws, and other tactics are often used to dilute the political power of Black, brown, and other communities of color at the ballot box. Speakers discuss how law can be used to overcome injustice in the upcoming elections and forecast the battle ahead for post-Census 2020 redistricting. Guest speakers are Marina Jenkins (SLS ’10), National Redistricting Foundation and Jacqueline De Leon (SLS ’11), Native American Rights Fund.
